Denise Andersen bio picture

Hello!

Well hello! You've found my blogsite.

Who am I? My name is Denise Andersen and I am the wife of an organic onion farmer living in the middle of farm country in Washington state. I look out my front door and see the neighbor bailing hay and I step out my back door and find myself surrounded by corn stalks. I love looking at the world around me and peeking out from behind the lens of a camera has given me the chance to see things in a variety of ways. I love creating images that are bright and playful, rich and sophisticated, or timelessly romantic. I'm game to photograph anywhere you want me to be since I love to travel and experience new places (I've even photographed in Rome and France!) I adore my clients and the many different situations they put me in which give me the chance to make magic happen.
The words I live by? See The Unseen.

Thanks for stopping by! I'd love to hear who you are, and how you found me.

Tawnee Senior Portraits

First, I want to dedicate this post to my photog friend Stephen Johnson of Fort Worth, Texas.  Everybody needs a friend like Stephen.  He pushes me to get my blog posts up and going.  I actually stink at blogging.  I am a visual person and writing is not my forte’ in life, but sharing my work makes it all worth while.  Flip on over to Stephen’s website and check out his work…did I mention he is talented.  Not only is he a great friend he is also a talented photog.

Now on to this post.   I am really enjoying taking Senior Portraits.   They are my fav right now.   Seniors are so full of energy and ideas.  They are willing to try different ideas and they want their portraits to be new and different. I feed off of different.

I love this photo. It is one of my all time favorites. I love the daring pose, the funky old tricycle, the upside down horse water trough(the container horse’s drink water from), the old grass and the amazing blue sky.  And all that was the beginning.  Then I added a sprinkle of color and texture and bam!   Does this kind of photography speak to you?

A little tradition portraits  for mom.

Tawnee loved this shot. It was her fav.

This is the original image and the next image is a magazine page that I create for each client.   They receive a 6 in X 6 in magazine book to share their favorite images.

This is the cover of  Tawnee’s magazine book.   Seniors love these books.

This is a sun flare experiment. It is so fun to play with the sun.

The back cover of the magazine book. The end for the book.

This photo was taken by www.shaylenerene.com.   She is my photog daughter who loves funky images. She rocks.  Shaylene and Tawnee went out into the field to “play” with the light.  Nice work.

Another image by www.shaylenerene.com. Check out her blog.

Well another end to a great time had by all.   Tawnee the world awaits…Got get them girl…

Remember comments are soooooooooooooooo welcomed.

After Wedding Portraits-Jenna and Husband

My daughter is married! I did hire a photographer to photograph the wedding, but as a photog it was killing me to not have a camera in my hand shooting the beautiful couple, but I loved being  just Mom. Ok the real story is my husband locked my camera in the car the day of  (in Seattle), smart man.  The plan was for me to meet the couple at Cave B Inn and Winery after the wedding for some portraits.  Hey it is a win, win!

I almost hate to admit this is my wedding dress and veil.  Jenna chose to be married in my dress.  It really was touching and very sweet, but I have to say the 80’s style is really dated.  I totally scored on the veil, it is timeless.

The neckline  is beautiful and our new son in law is quite handsome also.

I laugh every time I see this image.  This is the same face Jenna made everyday of her childhood as I brushed her hair.  I am so glad it know that I was not a mean Mom, Son in Law is having trouble also.

Laugher—I love “Real” expressions.

No, I did not photoshop this sky into the picture, it is what it was, amazing.  There are advantages to living out in the middle of farm land.

I love this image.  As a photog I get all excited when I rock an image.  For me this image “Rocks”!!

Jason and Valerie’s Wedding

Jason and Valerie’s wedding was beautiful and they had so much fun.

We met for a couple portrait session the day before the wedding. Never know what is hiding behind a warehouse.

Isn’t that a cool back ground? It is the warehouse floor. We used the warehouse for portraits also.

Yep, taken in the warehouse. Valerie was so brave to lay on top of new sorting table. She is beautiful.

They have an adorable son and he has the most engaging laugh…They are the cutest family.

Wedding day. In all it craziness, Jason and Valerie were able to sneak out and spend some time together before the wedding. I love the way they look at each other, it tells the whole story.

This is a sassy shot of Valerie out side, cool shadow. This shoot was taken by Shaylene Rene’ (my fabulous assistant photographer)

People hate showing emotion, but for me it is the best part of any ceremony. It is real!!

Laugher is the best.

The bridal party butterfly’s fluttering around.

If you want to make a groom sweat, ask him to bustle his wifes dress.

Boys and bubbles, who could resist this darling shoot.

And then there are shoes!! Another irresistible shot.

Isn’t this series great!! Valerie’s face is so funny and Jason is so proud.

This is the prefect way to end the night. A hug for the photographer. I love all my brides and grooms.

The Rome Bridal Shoot

My last post mentioned that I was able to do a bridal session with my oldest daughter Jenna in Europe. The shoot happened from 10 pm to about 4 am on a Saturday night and it was definitely an adventure for both of us. We received countless wishes of good fortune, a round of applause at the Trevi fountain, roses from admirers, were visited by a theif, and Jenna was even showered with a few kisses from drunk Italian men.

We were so fortunate to be loaned the dress and bolero’s you see by Designing Millie. Please visither blog here, and the MILLIE website here to see more of their gorgeous dresses.

This is our first shoot, 11:00pm at the Trevi Fountain, with a crowd of about 400 people watching. Can I say intimidation!!

I set up a flash to shoot light into the fountain and a police women came to inform me that you can not have anything on the rock in the fountain…I even understood her in Italian!

This is what it looks like with out flash on the water.

We name the different poses before we went so we could look very professional. Yep this was call “The Batman”. The people from Wyoming laughed.

So….we inducted the Wyoming people to be veil tossers. Good job Wyoming.

No little Bride, no sleeping, we still have the best to come. (It was only 12:30am)

Off to the Coliseum!!

ARE YOU READY? Here are my favorites. Yes!!!

Just a little wind and the veil starts to move.

Little Bride is tired, it is 2:00am now and finally everyone is almost gone.

Ok cute Italian guys, leave Miss Bride alone she has work to do!! Italian men love Brides.

Love the wind. And Jenna is kick’n it too.

One of my Fav’s.

I love this effect. Very dramatic, surreal almost.

I am now holding the veil with one hand, shooting with the other. Balance is everything.

Sweet ending!

3:00am. Hey we don’t look to bad for Mom and daughter. Thank you dear sweet Miss Bride.

Welcome!

This is my first blog entry! How exciting and sort of intimidating. For my first post I would like to introduce myself. I’m a central Washington photographer ready and willing to travel wherever my clients take me. I love to travel and when photography is included that makes any trip prefect.

People often ask me how long I have been a photographer. I would have to say all my life. I have always looked at the world as if it is a photograph. Did I study photography? Yes. Spending time in a black and white lab without utilizing any automatic features teaches you to really understand photography.

On this blog you will find my most recent work, as well as tips on how you can get better pictures from your photography experience. I’ve adopted the mantra “See the Unseen”, a phrase meant to describe the results I want to provide for each and every customer. I love creating an image that others don’t see and when they look at the back of my camera they say WOW!!

I am lucky enough to two beautiful daughters who are willing and able to be my models. And boy can they model. Here are a few of the many images that were taken of my “brides”. We all love photography and creating beautiful images.

Meet my youngest daughter, Shaylene, who is not a bride, and has no plans to be so anywhere in the near future. She is however a fantastic photographer who acts as my second shooter throughout the Summer.

This images was taken in the Columbia River with the reflection of our beautiful northwest sky. Hanging out in the middle of the river….it was November and it was freezing!!

I’ve made it a habit to comb the auctions on ebay looking for dresses to use during our sessions together. The dresses I find might not be up to date in style, but they usually tend to lend a classic beauty to the photos.

Hanging out on the edge of a cliff at the Columbia Gorge is no big deal for Shaylene by now. Bridals are going to be a piece of cake for her when it’s her turn for her real bridal shoot.

My oldest daughter Jenna is going to be married this October. We arranged to have a bridal shoot in Rome while we were in Europe visiting her in-laws. There are many more images that I am very excited to show you from this shoot. I’ll have them ready to post here in a few days. You can visit Jenna’s blog to learn more about the dress that made this shoot possible!

Thanks for visiting. Please leave me a comment and let me know how you found me!
